Sustainability & Supply Chain

Learn how Paw Cuisine sources, produces, and delivers raw pet food with a focus on responsibility, efficiency and transparency. This section outlines where our ingredients come from, how we work with local suppliers, and the steps we take to reduce waste and make the most of every resource. From ethical sourcing to streamlined processing and packaging, our approach is built around supporting local supply chains, minimising environmental impact and creating a more sustainable future for pet nutrition—without compromising on quality.

Do you use any imported ingredients?

No. At Paw Cuisine, we are committed to sourcing 100% locally within New Zealand. All of our ingredients come from trusted local suppliers, supporting regional farmers while ensuring freshness, traceability and quality you can rely on.

Do you trace your products?

Yes. At Paw Cuisine, full traceability is a key part of how we operate. We track our products from source through to production and distribution, ensuring every batch can be tracked back to its origin.

Operating under MPI (Ministry for Primary Industries) regulations, all products are formally recorded and documented. This includes:

  • Source farm identification
  • TB Status of Livestock
  • Geographic location of origin

Our Southern Pet Food facility, is regularly audited to MPI standards, ensuring we consistently meet strict requirements for pet food safety, quality control and traceability.

Whole Animal Utilisation, Ethical Procedures & Wild Game Sustainability

At Paw Cuisine, we maximise the use of each animal by utilising a wide range of cuts and by-products. This reduces wastage and supports a nose-to-tail approach, turning valuable raw materials into high-quality pet nutrition.

Ethical & Responsible Sourcing:

We work with our local farmers and hunters who follow responsible farming and animal welfare practices, ensuring our ingredients are sourced with care and integrity.

Wild Game Sustainability:

Our wild game supply program (Venison, Possum and Rabbit / Hares) supports pest population control while creating a sustainable protein source - benefiting both the environment and local ecosystems.

Waste Reduction, Processing Philosophy & Packaging Considerations

Our production processes are designed to be efficient and streamlines, helping reduce unnecessary waste while maintaining product quality. By redirecting surplus or non-retail livestock into pet food production, we help minimise waste within the agricultural systems.

Packaging Considerations:

We are continually reviewing packaging options to balance product integrity, food safety and environmental impact, with a focus on reducing excess materials where possible. We ask our customers to be mindful of the environment and recycle.
